Rutilated Quartz is a transparent Quartz with golden yellow Rutile inclusions that are in hairlike growths. The Rutile inclusions range from thin, sparse, and parallel, to thick, dense, and crisscrossed, and everything in-between. Each Rutilated Quartz gemstone is unique in its pattern of Rutile inclusions.

About

Rutilated Quartz is one of the few gemstones desirable because of its inclusions. This gives it a special allure and desirability as a unique gemstone type. Rutilated Quartz exists mainly in colorless, transparent Quartz, although a brown, smoky Rutilated Quartz also exists but is less common. Other color varieties of Quartz are rarely if ever encountered in rutilated form.

Uses

Rutilated Quartz is an affordable gemstone, and may be cut into large gemstones. It may also be cut into cabochons and beads, and may be carved into large ornamental spheres.

Treatments & Enhancements

Rutilated Quartz is natural and not enhanced.

Sources

The chief source of Rutilated Quartz is Brazil, and another important source is India. It is encountered elsewhere but is uncommon from other locations.

Similar Gemstones

The unique formation of Rutilated Quartz easily distinguishes it from all other gemstones, except for Rutilated Topaz. Rutilated Topaz is harder, has more brilliance, and its inclusions are different than Rutilated Quartz (its inclusions are Limonite rather than Rutile).
