2013 Contest Giveaway

Our 15 year anniversary giveaway contest is winding  down. This campaign was heavily marketed with full page ads in the Rocks & Minerals Magazine and the Mineralogical Record. We also put a half-page ad in The Tucson Gem & Mineral TM Show Guide. There were also postcards for the contest at the information tables at many of the Tucson shows, and Hershel Friedman was handing out postcards at many of the shows. Several dealers had also placed a poster in their hotel room at the InnSuites and Pueblo shows.

The contest registration page will be closed on March 10, at 11:59 PM EST. If you have not yet registered, do it now before the door closes. The drawing will take place on March 17, after which we will announce the contest winners. Stay tuned for our next email announcing all the winners!

Video: A New Mineral Discovery in Amity, NY

On a beautiful  autumn day last November, Hershel Friedman and Glenn Rhein spent the day filming Glenn’s amazing mineral discovery in Amity, New York. Glenn is a builder who lives in Amity, near the picturesque village of Warwick. Glenn excavates to clear land for building homes. While digging in the Franklin Marble region he discovered amazing crystals while excavating, and he reached out to the mineral community for help in figuring out what his mineral finds were.  Glenn ultimately found beautiful and historical finds, such as large and sharp spinel crystals, and he is now an expert in minerals he has found.

Tucson Show Report

For the past two years, Hershel Friedman has been photographing the Tucson shows and documenting them, and then placing these show reports on the Minerals.net news page. This year is no different, with more pictures and reports then in previous years. Hershel’s show reports give readers a good look at what the shows are like, with excellent photos of different scenes.

Due to scheduling conflicts, Hershel was unfortunately unable to attend the Westward Look show this year, but the following shows were attended:

Click any of the links above to see the show report. We are also putting together a small report on Rob Lavinsky’s Chinese collection exhibited in the University of Arizona Flandrau Science Center and Planetarium special exhibit hall.
